Role Overview

The Federal Retirement Thrift Investment Board (FRTIB) is an independent Federal Agency responsible for administering the Thrift Savings Plan (TSP). As an Administrative Support Specialist, you will play a key role in ensuring smooth daily operations and supporting mission-critical activities related to the TSP, which is the retirement savings and investment plan for federal employees.

Typical Daily Tasks

  1. Screen incoming calls and visitors, determine their needs, and refer them appropriately.
  2. Invite customers to complete the administrative support survey to measure satisfaction.
  3. Prepare materials for the Director’s appointments.
  4. Manage incoming mail and distribute it accordingly.
  5. Arrange meetings and conferences, including logistics and notifications.
  6. Participate in meetings, record notes, and follow up on action items.
  7. Coordinate travel arrangements for staff and the Director.
  8. Maintain office files and manage office supplies and equipment.
  9. Perform administrative functions such as processing purchase requests and maintaining records.
  10. Manage office space and furniture issues.
  11. Use various software applications to carry out work activities and prepare materials.
  12. Perform timekeeping duties.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience in federal or professional administrative support roles.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and collaboration tools (e.g., MS Teams, Zoom).
  • Excellent communication, organizational skills, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to handle sensitive information discreetly.
  • Familiarity with federal agency operations, including travel systems (e.g., ConcurGov), procurement, and records management.
  • Experience supporting federal agencies, especially within financial or retirement systems.
  • Authorization to work permanently in the U.S.

Preferred Qualifications

Additional experience with the Thrift Savings Plan (TSP) or retirement benefit systems is a plus.
